If you are having problems with glitches, freezes, crashes, or other technical difficulties with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on PC, you can use the configuration file to try and fix these problems. This configuration file is designed for maximum performance and does not help with freezing or crashing issues. This configuration file may NOT work for all users and this fix should only be used as a last resort after trying everything else. There are several ways to set up your Config folder so that the game runs properly without any freezes/crashes/glitches. It is highly recommended that you back up your existing files before making any changes to them. For Windows Vista/7 users, there are two ways of tweaking the performance of the game. First is manually editing the config file, and second is downloading a pre-configured set of files for your hardware specification that will run the game without glitches or crashes. Pre-configured files are considered 'unofficial' and should not be used if you want to play online with other players. The config file also allows you to tweak several visual aspects of the game. The first step to tweak your game is through editing the configuration file (Config). Edit these settings only if the visual quality of the game is unacceptable for you. Use the following instructions to edit your "Config" folder: Open your "Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2" installation directory. By default this is usually located at: Call of Duty MW2> ||>Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2> on Windows Vista/7 or: C:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Steam\\\\steamapps\\\\common\\\\Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on Windows Vista/7 and: common\\\\ | the file path may be different for you. ||>call of duty modern warfare 2 on Windows XP. Change the file "config_mp.cfg" in Notepad or another text editor. Open it and edit your settings, for example: Change the visual quality to "High" if you are using Windows Vista/7. To have a full package of effects enabled, enable all boxes for "Texture Detail", "Effects", "Anti-Aliasing", and "Anisotropic Filtering". For Single Player mode, disable Anti-Aliasing because it is not necessary for this mode to run at full speed with the highest quality visuals. Save the changes you made to your configuration file and launch the game. If your game is crashing when launching, with any setting you have selected, try changing the config file back to the defaults and re-downloading the set of files recommended in the section about preconfigured configuration files. This method does not need a download. It may be quicker if you do not have a recent version of DirectX installed on your computer. Open Notepad or another text editor. Change these values: Hover the mouse over each item and press "t" to replace it Before you save it make sure that ALL settings are listed on top of each column. Save the configuration file with a .cfg extension. cfa1e77820
